Gerberas
Common Name: Gerbera Daisy, Gerbera, Transvaal Daisy, Barberton Daisy, African Daisy
Description: Large daisy-like flower, with heads 3-5 inches wide. Flat at end of scape, the outer rows of ray flowers have colorful, strap-shaped petals. Inner disk flowers, tubular scape. Leafless, 24-36 inches long. Can be hollow. Fragrance: None Facts: Versatile blooms often used as mass flowers in designs. Popular in mono-cultivar bouquets, particularly when seeking a retro 60's look. There are few flowers happier than the gerbera, turning its vivacious blooms to follow the path of the sun. Single or double daisy-like flower heads in scarlet red, rose, orange, white or yellow burst forth from toothed-leaf stems in giant, mini, micro, fringed varieties. This joyous flower possesses a hearty constitution and with care will last for over a week. The compositae or Aster family is vast, with over 20,000 species, and is also one of the most developed families. It was named compositae because the flowers are actually a "composite" of many individual flowers into one head. Hence, when children pull one "petal" off at a time, saying "she/he loves me, loves me not", they are actually removing a complete flower, not just a petal. Meaning: Innocence, Purity, Strength, Beauty
